I suspect this is partly why many people opt to live with their parents or in-laws while raising a family. I've often thought that I would gladly give up monogamy and "share" my husband with another woman if it meant she'd make the dinner every once in awhile and clean the occasional toilet!
My friends and I have talked about co-housing as a retirement option too...building something that keeps us independent but within reach of each other...
